Information to Share:
- On-going Strike Action: As many of you know, the province is currently in the midst of strike action/lockout in the world of education. These are certainly uncertain times for educators, students and families. As of today, we know that Langley Schools will be behind picket lines on Tuesday May 27th. For more information on this, please click here for the letter sent home from Suzanne Hoffman, Superintendent of Schools last week. We have some major school events coming up in the next couple weeks (Track Meet, Family Fun Night, Grade 7 Camp, etc) so for the most up-to-date information, please be sure you are connected to one of the following West Langley communication tools: Facebook, Twitter, Remind 101 or email. We will share information as it becomes available to us. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to contact Mr. Davids at the school.
- Regional Track and Field Meet: As of today, we are going ahead with our scheduled Walnut Grove Regional Track Meet this Friday at WGSS. As a result of strike action, teachers will be at the event supervising students, but will not be running any of the events. West Langley is responsible for the ball throw so we would need approximately 4 - 8 parents to help for approximately 2 hour shifts throughout the day. If you are able to help out, please contact Mr Davids at the school.
- From The Library: Thanks so much to the PAC for their continuing support of the library. We have been able to add some new Junior chapter collections as well as adding new releases to series already being enjoyed. We were also able to add to some of our Intermediate Series collections and fill gaps where needed. We now have almost the entire set of the popular series "The 39 Clues." The "Orca Sports" and "Orca Currents" series have also been a big hit with our grade 6/7 students. At this time of year we begin the task of gathering up all the library materials so we can inventory and organize. Many students have Overdue books out that need to be located and returned. If items are lost or damaged please help us look after our library by paying the replacement cost. Students will receive notices every week. The last day to borrow books is June 6 and all books must be returned by June 13th.
- Professional Learning: During the past week, I have “scooped” a few professional learning articles, websites and videos to Lions Lowdown: Professional Learning at West Langley Elementary. Be sure to check out the following:

Still looking for help, too, so if you're interested in finding out more, stop by the volunteer board on Monday before and after school, email us at [email protected], or leave a message at the office! THANKS.
Thank you also to the parents that attended the PAC AGM last week and who also volunteered to hold a position for next year. We are still looking for someone to help coordinate our fundraising efforts for next year. If you might be interested in this position or have any questions, please email Wendy at [email protected]. Check us out on Facebook too and send us a message there!
It's also the last few weeks to help our school through COBS. If you buy something there, please tell them you're from West Langley and they will donate a percentage straight back to the school! Easy as that!
