Information
It's the last TWAWLE for 2015! I am still not quite sure how that happened. It has been a great first 4 months of the school year, and I am grateful for the relationships I have been able to establish with students, families and staff at WLE! I look forward to strengthening those relationships, and to sharing more amazing authentic learning opportunities with staff and students.
- TEDxLangleyED is coming in January. There may still be a few tickets left! It's worth a Saturday's time to hear from a great group of speakers.
- Kindergarten Registration Opens Monday, January 18, 2016
All children who will be five years old by December 31, 2016 (children born in 2011) are eligible for the Kindergarten program beginning September 6, 2016. Registrations received after March 31, 2016 will be considered late. Late registration may affect placement in your catchment school due to space limitations.
The following documents are required at the time of registration:
Proof of Age (Birth Certificate).
Proof of Canadian Citizenship or Permanent Resident Status must be provided for the parent (Canadian Birth Certificate, Canadian Citizenship Card, Canadian Passport, Landed Immigrant documentation, Permanent Resident documentation/cards)

- We are proud of the great work and early learning happening at the West Langley StrongStart Center. StrongStart is a FREE, early learning, drop in program for children birth to 5 years of age. Parents and/or caregivers attend this fully funded Ministry of Education program with their children. As Early Childhood Educators, the StrongStart facilitators provide a rich play based environment full of activities. The activities provided will promote opportunities where your child/children can make new friends, explore new activities and learn skills that will assist them in the preparation and successful transition to kindergarten. As adults you are encouraged to get involved in the learning opportunities - stories, music, art, puzzles, games and so much more. Join a StrongStart near you where you can discover new ways to support your child's learning, get information about community resources and make valuable connections with others attending the program.

Read & Watch Me
- What's wrong with a grade? In which the case against letter grades and averages in assessing students is made again.
- SingleTasking - a better way to work? I wonder at the implications of this for my own work, and for that of our students. I also read an interesting chapter by A.J Jacobs in his book The Guinea Pig Diaries: My Life as an Experiment about one of his experimental months where he would ONLY single-task (he called it 'Extreme Focus'). He felt, once he got used to it, like focusing on one task at a time made him much more productive.
