Strong Start StrongStart is a FREE, early learning, drop in program for children birth to 5 years of age. Parents and/or caregivers attend this fully funded Ministry of Education program with their children. As Early Childhood Educators, the StrongStart facilitator provides a rich play based environment full of activities. The activities provided will promote opportunities where your child/children can make new friends, explore new activities and learn skills that will assist them in the preparation and successful transition to kindergarten. As adults you are encouraged to get involved in the learning opportunities - stories, music, art, puzzles, games and so much more. Join a StrongStart near you where you can discover new ways to support your child's learning, get information about community resources and make valuable connections with others attending the program. Earthquake Drill With the recent earthquake still resonating in our minds, we will have an earthquake drill in the first week or two of school. Prior to the drill, we will talk in classes about procedures and expectations. It also occurred to me at home, when we had the earthquake, that my own children know better what to do if an earthquake happens at school than if it happens at home. We realized that we have to spend some time talking with our kids about where to shelter, when to leave, and where to meet up as a family in the event we have such an event outside of school time. If you haven't had that conversation at home, it would dovetail nicely with our conversations at school if you did so this week. TEDxLangleyED Don't forget that the second TEDxLangleyED event is coming on January 16. Tickets are in short supply now. Only 28 tickets remain. LFAS Arts Matter On February 11th, Join Langley Fine Arts School in welcoming Wade Davis, author, explorer, ethnobotanist and now member of the Order of Canada as he speaks about the importance of the arts in life. Find info and ticket links here. QuotationalTransformational

InformationIt's the last TWAWLE for 2015! I am still not quite sure how that happened. It has been a great first 4 months of the school year, and I am grateful for the relationships I have been able to establish with students, families and staff at WLE! I look forward to strengthening those relationships, and to sharing more amazing authentic learning opportunities with staff and students.

Things to know...
Snow closures and power outages are an annual occurrence in Langley School District. So where do you go to get information about the status of schools during periods of inclement weather? If you are able to access the internet via computer or smartphone, current information about Langley schools can be accessed at www.sd35.bc.ca<http://www.sd35.bc.ca>. Alerts regarding school status will appear as a banner at the top of the District website. Clicking on ‘More Details’ will provide more information. School status information may also be found under News & Events’, ‘School Status Alerts’. We will also post updates to Twitter @LangleySchools and Facebook www.Facebook.com/LangleySchoolDistrict.<http://www.Facebook.com/LangleySchoolDistrict.> If you don't have internet connectivity, but your phone is working, call a relative or friend in an area that has not been affected by the storm and ask them to check the district website for you. Current information is also recorded on the Langley School District's Information Hotline at 604-532-1453. (Do not hang up if your call is not connected right away). Local radio stations are also informed of school status in Langley. Tune in to CKWX 1130 AM, CKNW 980 AM, Country Radio 107.1 FM or CBC 690 AM for updates. Please note that Langley District schools are all considered 'open' until a decision to close is required. Decisions on school closures are usually made by 6:30am. As always, it is a parent's decision whether to send their child to school based on safety and individual circumstances. If you feel it is unsafe for you or your child to travel to or attend an open school for any reason, please keep your child home and report an absence to the school.
